Choosing your Wedding Party: Is a big or small bridal party right for you?
March 20, 2018
When determining the size of your wedding party, unfortunately there is no “one-size-fits-all” to help you choose the ideal size. Some prefer smaller parties with one or two close friends or loved ones. Others prefer a large wedding party with friends, siblings, cousins, etc. Also, keep in mind that you don’t have to have the same number of bridesmaids as your fiancé does, groomsmen! But if you are stumped and trying to figure out how many people you should have standing by you at the altar, here are a few aspects to keep in mind when deciding if you want a big or small number.
The smaller the better if…
You’re not one for drama.
With more people, comes the opportunity for more drama. If you’re not a fan of disagreements, conflict and varying opinions, you may get irritated managing a larger wedding party. With a few close family members and friends, chances are you will keep the tension at a minimum.
You’re looking to cut costs.
Being part of a wedding party can be quite costly for your friends, and hosting can even be a splurge for you as well. Between ceremony dresses and pre-wedding festivities, there are a lot of costs associated for your girls. And traditionally, the bride pays for their bouquets, transportation and gifts. So, if you are worried about your budget, having a smaller wedding party is a good way to cut costs.
You cherish organization in your life.
Some couples may prefer to have a smaller wedding party, so they won't have to deal with making travel arrangements, setting meeting times, and allocating responsibilities between many different people.
The bigger the better if…
You have a LOT of friends.
If the thought of having to let people down makes you cringe, then a big wedding party is for you. A small wedding party can come with lots of hurt feelings, so keeping a larger group will mean you won’t haven’t to disappoint people!
You need the help!
If you are trying to balance your job, social obligations, other weddings, etc., then having a large group will help you be able to rely on them for any assistance! If you are a DIY bride and a lot of your projects are hands-on, having more girls means having more helpers!
You will have amazing photo-op’s.
A bigger wedding party means a unique opportunity to have tons of fun with your photographs. Talk to your photographer about creative poses and candid shots of your favorite loved ones all together!
